Gadkari’s Waterway-1 Caused GANGA FLOODS

August29, 2016 (C) Ravinder Singh progressindia2015@gmail.com

For three Monsoon seasons Gadkari and Uma Bharti neglected Flood Protection works – focus was mainly on Cleaning Ganga at Varanasi.

Rs.7,000 cr including Rs.4,200 cr funded by World Bank for Inland Waterways -1 and Rs.20,000 Cr for cleaning Ganga were approved and flood control, Dam Storages were neglected by this Government.

There is much less than normal rains in UP and Bihar in 11-24 August Period.

Bihar received 91.2mm rains against 139.6mm normal;
East UP 151.7mm rains against 140mm normal and
West UP received 104.8mm against 132.1mm normal;
Uttarkhand received 145.2mm rains against 198.2mm normal.

East Rajasthan received 153.7mm rains against 108.3mm normal
West MP received 159.7mm rains against 132.8mm normal
East MP received 248.8mm rains against 164.5mm normal
Jharkhand received 277.1mm rains against 139.8mm normal

East MP & Jharkhand mainly contributed to floods UP & Bihar – these states or regions have good sites for Storage Dams but except Rihand and Bansagar two CWC monitored dams there is no important storage.

Bansagar Dam absorbed 1.02 BCM water [4.853 – 3.833] has 5.166 BCM live storage.
Rihand Dam absorbed 2.836 BCM water [4.335 – 1.499] has 5.649 BCM live storage.

About 70 BCM water has flowed in to sea in just 14 days – there was not enough storage to absorb floods [3.838 BCM].

GOI has build 70 BCM storage in Rajasthan, MP & Jharkhand to provide Flood Protection and Irrigation and drought proof region South Of Ganga River.

River Linking & Waterways Are Total Lunatics.
