Dear Media Colleagues:
Greetings from the United Nations Information Centre for Indian and Bhutan.
As you are already aware, adopted by the world’s leaders in September 2015, AGENDA 2030 outlines 17 Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs, to eradicate poverty, fight inequality and injustice and combat climate change by 2030. [For more information about the SDGs, please access the UN website: http://www.un.org/sus tainabledevelopment/sustainabl e-development-goals/ ]
As part of efforts to reach civil society and in particular young people, UNIC New Delhi launched ‘MITIGATING AIR POLLUTION IN DELHI’, a creative competition for students from NPSC Schools to build on the 43rd Annual National Progressive Schools Conference which had focused on the Sustainable Development Goals. Since the United Nations has declared 2016 as the Year of Living Sustainably, we thought it would be fitting to focus on the goal of ‘Climate Action’. Consequently, we expected young minds from these schools to come up with ideas for air pollution mitigation through art, models, science and innovation.
Through this project, we wanted to encourage young minds to actively come up with ways to deal with air pollution which is part of a bigger issue of climate change. Depending on their practicality, we are also proposing some selected science models to IIT Delhi to be developed into functional prototypes.
On behalf of UNIC, New Delhi, Sonalika Social Development Society, Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation and the National Progressive Schools Conference (NPSC), we cordially invite you to at our Gala Award Ceremony to be organized on Wednesday, 21 December 2016 at 11 am in the Silver Oaks Hall, India Habitat Centre, Lodi Road, New Delhi-110003 to be a part of the celebration and spread the word about our unique initiative.
I look forward to welcoming you at our Award Ceremony on the December 21st.
