Three quakes hit Central Italy , earthquakes have hit central Italy, within an hour, shaking the same region that suffered a series of deadly quakes in 2016
First tremor, with a preliminary magnitude of 5.3, hit the region north of Amatrice about 10.25am (8.25pm AEDT), according to the US Geological Survey.
A second quake with a magnitude of 5.7 hit the same area about 50 minutes later.
Just 10 minutes later a third hit with magnitude 5.3. No immediate reports of loss of life or casualties on Wednesday but tremors were felt as far away as Rome, the subway was closed as a precaution and parents were asked to pick up their children from schools.
