Supreme court halts cattle trade ban

Supreme court has suspended the government order banning the sale of cattle for slaughter.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government decreed in May that animal markets could only trade cattle for agricultural purposes, such as ploughing or dairy production.Cows are sacred animals for right-wing Hindu groups tied to Modi’s ruling party have demanded that slaughterhouses be closed.

Tension grew in business community and in various states where slaughter business for leather industry and other leather products is main stake.
