Japanese firms aim to promote their products online in India. They see the country’s e-commerce sector as a promising new market.
The Japan External Trade Organization, or JETRO, is backing the move. It is hosting a business convention for Japanese firms in Tokyo from Tuesday to Friday.
One Japanese firm is showcasing safety pins. Indian women use them to prevent their traditional dress, or saris, from becoming untidy. The company says its products are strong and rust-resistant. It also says the pins can go into cloth easily and do not cause it damage.
JETRO will set up a page on India’s largest e-commerce website Flipkart in January to test market Japanese merchandize.
The safety pin maker has high expectations for India with a population of 1.3 billion. It is confident its pins are safe and high quality.
Flipkart says Indian consumers know that the quality of Japanese products is high, so it wants as many Japanese firms as possible to participate online.NHK
