A seaside resort city west of Tokyo will host a new international film festival next year.The launch of the Mt. Fuji-Atami Film & VR Festival was announced by its organizing committee on Monday.
Film festival will be held next year from June 28th to July 1st in Atami City, Shizuoka Prefecture.
The festival has 6 categories and 12 awards.
The committee says it is collaborating with the Busan International Film Festival in South Korea and the European Independent Film Festival in Paris.
It says this will help bring in award-winning films and foreign movie stars to Atami.
Atami Mayor Sakae Saito says he hopes the festival will provide Japanese with the chance to see more art house films from overseas as well as introduce Japanese movies to international audiences.
He expressed hope the new festival would become an annual event.
