Amid continuous disruption by the Congress members on fifth consecutive day today, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks against his predecessor Dr Manmohan Singh and others.
The Congress members continued to insist that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should clarify on his remarks.
As soon as House met in the post-lunch session, they raised the issue and despite Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu’s appeal to allow nominated member Sachin Tendulkar to speak on the issue of sports, the Congress members refused to yield.
Following this, Mr. Naidu adjourned the house till tomorrow expressing displeasure over noisy scenes.
Earlier in the morning when the house met, Congress members trooped into the well of the House raising slogans against Modi. Leader of Opposition Ghulam Nabi Azad said the entire opposition has been waiting for the Prime Minister to come to the House and clarify on his remarks against Dr Singh.
Responding to this, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Vijay Goel counter the opposition and asked how the Prime Minister will come to the House when the opposition continues to disturb the functioning of the House.
The Chairman said he condemns the behaviour of the agitating members and asked them not to level allegations against either Prime Minister or former Prime Minister.
After that Congress members went back to their seats but continued to raise slogans. He adjourned the House till 2 PM.
Mr Azad also raised the issue of acquittal of all the accused in 2G spectrum case today.
