Uttar Pradesh government has ordered the withdrawal of a 1995 case related to defying prohibitory orders against Yogi Adityanath himself and 14 others, including a Union minister and a BJP MLA.
The case against the Chief Minister Yogi, Union Minister of State for Finance Shiv Pratap Shukla, BJP MLA Sheetal Pandey and 12 others was filed at Gorakhpur’s Pipiganj police station on May 27, 1995 for holding a meeting in violation of prohibitory orders by the district administration.
Gorakhpur Prosecution Official say after the FIR was lodged, the district administration submitted documents related to the charges and the case in the local court. The court issued summons to all accused and when they did not respond, the court ordered NBWs against them around two years ago.
Gorakhpur administration has confirmed that the order for filing an application to withdraw the case had been received. The Prosecution Officer has been asked to file the withdrawal application in the appropriate court.
whiling tabling a Criminal Law (Composition of Offences and Abatement of Trials) (Amendment) Bill, 2017, Sri Yogi had announced in Assembly during recent winter session that 20,000 “politically motivated” cases filed across the state for his “dharna pradarshan” or demonstrations will be withdrawn
