The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) while expressing satisfaction over the recent amendments made in the Master Plan by the Government has drawn the attention of Union Urban Development Minister Shri Hardeep Puri and Delhi LG Shri Anil Baijal towards other areas of Delhi which needs protection from sealing.and has urged for immediate steps for providing shelter to these areas.

CAIT Secretary General Mr. Praveen Khandelwal said that undoubtedly, the amendments will give relief to large chunk of traders working in Local Commercial Complexes and having Godowns in agricultural land or in village abadi. However, there is an urgent need of de-sealing of shops which falls under the amendment and MCD should sue-moto cognisance of such shops and de-seal the same since they are now part of the Master Plan.

Mr. Khandelwal further said that though the DDA has decided to restrict a period of 10 years for paying conversion charges but its notification needs to be issued. Likewise it is yet to be made clear whether conversion charges are applicable on special area comprising of walled city, Karol Bagh, Sadar Bazar, Paharganj etc. The status of special area is also yet to be defined to protect the same from sealing. Clarity is required for protection for Building and markets prior to 1962. Status of markets of L&DO also needs to be clarified from protection point of view. Since 2007 to till date much has been changed in Delhi and as such re-survey of roads is necessary for further notification of roads.

Mr. Khandelwal also said that since the business paradigm in Delhi has changed, the 24 categories in small shops should be abolished and size of small shop should be enhanced to 50sqm instead of current 20sqm. Colonies like Greater Kailash, Green Park, South Extension which were built by DLF should be considered as Rehabilitation Colony at par with other colonies of DLF. In proportion of growing need, ample parking space should be developed in consultation with Trade Associations. Facility of Bar should be allowed in only Restaurants working in residential areas as one of the basic fundamentals of fine dining.

He also said that Delhi Government should aggressively hold the case of 351 Roads in Supreme Court for notification and should be notified at the earliest.
