General election campaigning kicked off in Cambodia on Saturday.
Prime Minister Hun Sen’s ruling party is virtually assured of victory as the main opposition party is absent.
At a rally in the capital Phnom Penh, Hun Sen told tens of thousands of supporters that his party will continue to improve people’s livelihood.
The governing Cambodian People’s Party began campaigning with 19 other political groups.
Voting will take place on July 29th.
The leader of the opposition is under arrest on charges of treason and the Supreme Court ordered the party to disband last year.
The opposition National Rescue Party had made large gains in the general election in 2013 and local elections last year.
The United States and the European Union suspended assistance for the current election.
