Jailed former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam and son-in-law Mohammad Safdar today filed appeals in the Islamabad High Court against their conviction by the Accountability Court in Avenfield Reference. The appeal states that the sentences may be suspended and they be released on bail till the final decision of the court. It has been pleaded in the application that the cases may be referred to a separate court because the concerned judge cannot hear another case against the same accused after giving a judgment in Avenfield reference.
The three are lodged at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi following their conviction for owning properties disproportionate to their sources of income. Sharif and his daughter were arrested on Friday on their arrival in Lahore.
The Pakistan government has also approved a request to put Nawaz Sharif and his daughter on no-fly list.
