India’s first shooting gold of the AsianGames2018 in the men’s 10m air pistol by Saurabh Chaudhary the teen shooter in Palembang, on Tuesday.
The 16-year-old Saurabh Chaudhary, topped the qualifying round, shot a Games record score of 240.7 to pip Japan’s Tomoyuki Matsuda (239.7) in an exciting final to add a gold to India’s shooting tally of two silver and a bronze this Asiad.
Hobby shooter Abhishek Verma, also making his Asian Games debut at 29, settled for the bronze medal in the same event with a score of 219.3.
Shooters have won 1 Gold, 2 Silver and 2 Bronze of the 7 medals India has won so far.
Apart from shooting, two Golds have come in Wrestling, first was won by Bajrang Punia and the other was bagged by Vinesh Phogat yesterday.
India is currently seventh in the medals tally. China continues to be at the top, with Japan second and South Korea third.
Four Indian grapplers will be seen in action today. Divya Kakran and Kiran in Freestyle and Gyanender and Manish in Greco Roman category will vie for glory in their respective categories.
Archery events have also begun. Deepika Kumari, Promila Daimary, Ankita Bhakat and Laxmirani Manjhi are figuring in the Women’s Recurve event, with Atanu Das, Sukhchain Singh, Jagdish Choudhary and Viswash set to feature in the Men’s section later in the day.
In Swimming, India’s Virdhawal Khade has qualified for the Finals of Men’s 50 metres Freestyle category.
Rower Dattu Bhokanal entered the Final of Men’s Single Sculls event, while Sanjukta Dung and Harpreet Kaur qualified for the Women’s Pair Rowing Finals.
In Women’s Hockey, India will take on Kazakhstan in their second Group-B match
