Asian Games: Manjit Singh wins gold, Jinson Johnson bags silver in men’s 800m; PV Sindhu becomes first Indian to win silver in Badminton

@airnewssIndia clinched 9 more medals at the Asian Games in Indonesia today. In Athletics, Manjit Singh won gold in men’s 800 metres while Jinson Johnson took silver.

Ace shuttler PV Sindhu created history by becoming the first Indian to win a Silver medal in Badminton.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated P V Sindhu for the feat. In a tweet, Mr Modi said, her accomplishment makes 125 crore Indians happy and proud.  In yet another good performance in track and field, India finished second in the first ever mixed 400m relay race event, and got a silver. Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Rathore congratulated the relay team for their fabulous show of talent.

India also settled for two Silver medals in Archery as both the Compound Men’s and Women’s teams lost to South Korea in their respective Finals.

India bagged two medals in Kurash, a form of wrestling indigenous to central Asia, with Pincky Balhara winning a silver and Malaprabha Yallappa Jadhav bagged a bronze, both in women’s 52 kg. category. The Indian Men’s Table Tennis team had to content with a Bronze after losing to South Korea 0-3, in the semi-finals.

In other action,  India mauled Sri Lanka 20-nil in yet another goal festival in Men’s hockey. They will now face Malaysia in the semi-finals tomorrow. The Indian Women’s Hockey Team registered their fourth consecutive victory in Pool B today as they defeated Thailand 5-0.

With today’s 9 medal haul, India now have 50 medals in its kitty comprising 9 Gold, 19 Silver and 22 Bronze and are now placed 8th in the table. China continues to the top the tally with Japan second and South Korea third.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has congratulated Jinson Johnson for winning Gold Medal in the men’s 1500 metres race event at the Asian Games. In a tweet, Mr Modi said, take a bow, Jinson Johnson, a phenomenal athlete brings home a Gold.
Congratulating women team for winning the Gold in the 4×400 metres relay event, Mr. Modi said this victory enhances the joy and pride of the entire nation.
The Prime Minister congratulated the men team for clinching silver medal in 4×400 metres Relay event. He tweeted, stupendous teamwork brings home one more medal.
Mr Modi also congratulated Chitra Unnikrishnan for getting  a Bronze medal in the women’s 1500 metres event and Seema Punia for bagging the Bronze in the women’s Discus event.
