Today, the Government of India has promulgated an Ordinance dissolving Medical Council of India whose tenure was to expire shortly. A governing council of senior and learned medical professionals has been constituted to take care of MCI till further decision.
There had been a lot of charges of corruption against MCI for many years and the capitation fee in the Private Medical Colleges had been very high and the students who wanted to have the medical education were really harassed and some of the students even committed suicide. The government wanted the NMC Bill to replace the Medical Council of India.
Delhi Medical Association, as well as Indian Medical Association, demanded that the government should bring the changes in the National Medical Commission like –
– Removal of cross pathy
– Increase in the number of the medical doctors in the governing council
– Withdrawal of the EXIT Examination
– To reduce the autonomy of Private Medical Colleges.
Delhi Medical Association really wishes that the corruption in the medical education is removed and since the government has taken a positive step towards the removal of corruption. It is a welcome decision but we strive to get a doctor-friendly bill whenever it is implemented with all the demands of the Medical Association are fulfilled.
Delhi Medical Association wants that a better medical education system should be there at affordable cost with an increase in the UG and PG seats. The cross pathy should not exist, the student should not be burdened off another exam after the final year of MBBS exam and proper representation of the medical professionals be there in any forthcoming bill and there should not be any Inspector Raj.
