China’s state-run news agency says at least 14 people have been killed in a highway pile-up in the northwestern province of Gansu.
Xinhua says a traffic accident involving more than 30 vehicles occurred on an expressway in the city of Lanzhou on Saturday evening. 34 others have been injured and are being treated at hospital.
The news agency quoted rescuers as saying that a heavy truck lost control and crashed into a line of vehicles waiting outside the toll station.
Other media outlets are reporting the truck driver, who sustained minor injuries, as saying the brake failed.
