‘ In Defense of Science & Scientific Temper’

Dear Sir/Madam,

In 21stcentury, it is unimaginable that a society or a nation can survive and develop without science, and science can survive only in a scientifically tempered society. In order to ‘make friends with science’ a democracy must continually march towards scientifically tempered social order. However, this is easier said than done.

Our constitution clearly lays out emphatically that it is duty of every citizen to spread ‘scientific temper, spirit of inquiry and humanism’. Inclusion of this fundamental duty in the constitution of India is also recognition of the fact that the three ‘scientific temper’, ‘spirit of inquiry’ and ‘humanism’ are interdependent values and one without the other two cannot survive.
