President on 5-day visit to Myanmar

President Ram Nath Kovind will be on a 5-day visit to Myanmar from next Monday. During the visit, Mr Kovind will visit Nay Pyi Taw and Yangon, and interact with President U Win Myint and State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi.

The External Affairs Ministry said, through the visit, Mr Kovind will reaffirm India’s commitment to developing its important partnership with Myanmar.

It said Myanmar is a country where India’s Act East and Neighbourhood First policies intersect. It is also the only ASEAN member state that is both a land and maritime neighbour of India. In the past three years, political, economic and defence ties with Myanmar have grown rapidly. A Joint Statement will be adopted during the President’s visit, along with the signing of several agreements.
