Shindake volcano erupts

Japan, a volcano erupted this morning on a small Kuchinoerabu island in the southernpart of the country. The  Meteorological agency said in Tokyo that thevolcano is spewing ash and smoke into the air over the sparsely-inhabited area.

Public broadcaster NHK said, there are no reports of injuries or damage yetfrom the eruption.

Eruptions were continuing as of 10 AM, spewing smoke up to 300 meters.

The agency is urging people to be on alert for volcanic rocks and pyroclastic flows. Residents and visitors are being advised to seek shelter and remain updated.

The agency has maintained a level three warning, which meansa ban on entering the volcano area. Japan, with scores of active volcanoes,sits on the so-called Pacific “Ring of Fire” where a large proportionof the world’s earthquakes and volcanic eruptions are recorded.
