Iran busts two IS-linked terror cells

Iran has said that its forces have identified and busted two terrorist cells in the west of the country. A total of 13 people, affiliated to the Islamic State (IS) group, were arrested in the operations in Iran’s western province of Kurdistan.

News agency IRNA reported that the terrorist cells intended to carry out bomb attacks and assassinate some Iranian Sunni clerics in the province.

According to Intelligence Ministry’s Public Relations Department, intelligence forces managed to identify and arrest 13 elements, affiliated to Daesh (ISIS) terrorist group.

Some of them had undergone military training abroad and were to launch terrorist action, IRNA reported.

Remote control bombs, arms and munitions were explored from the elements.105

Head of the justice department of Sistan and Balouchestan province, Ebrahim Hamidi, said on Thursday that the police and security forces have so far arrested 8 suspects in connection with the recent terror attack on the IRGC forces in southeastern Iran.

He said two of the suspects have been arrested on Wednesday and Thursday, Tasnim News Agency reported.

As per the report, some of the arrested had been trained abroad. It said, remote-controlled bombs, arms and munitions were seized from the terrorist groups
