China for removal of trade tariffs with US

Chinese Vice Minister of Commerce Wang Shouwen spoke to reporters in Beijing on Saturday about ongoing trade negotiations with the US.

Wang said that the additional tariffs are harmful not only to China and the US but also the global economy.

He said that all of the tariffs will be eliminated if both sides reach an agreement.

The US and China continue trade talks after the US extended the deadline for a deal and postponed planned tariff increases on Chinese imports.

Wang says the two sides have achieved substantial progress on important issues and that they are working day and night to reach a deal.

US President Donald Trump has suggested that he will meet his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping to try to work out an agreement.

But US and Chinese negotiators remain at odds over US demands that China review its preferential treatment of state-owned firms.
