This year marks a very significant term for the Austrian Embassy in New Delhi as we celebrate Friendship & Partnership in 2019. It is a year of jubilees as we are proud to mark 30 years of bilateral relationship with Bhutan60 years with Nepal and70 years with India.

Austrian FM visits BangladeshOn February 20 Austrian Foreign Minister, Dr Karin Kneissl, started her official tour to South Asia in Bangladesh. After her meeting with Foreign Minister Momen, both Ministers spoke to the press. Austria’s Foreign Minister also interacted with children from very poor families in Dhaka who receive school education from an Austrian NGO, “HOPE87” on her visit.  POLITICS & PROTOCOL 
Delegation visits Kyiuchu LhakhangOn her way from the airport in Pato to Bhutan‘s capital Thimphu, the Delegation stopped by Kyiuchu Lhakhang, a Buddhist Monastery from the 7th century. Her first day in Bhutan was otherwise dedicated to meetings with Foreign Minister Dr Dorji and the Prime Minister of the country.  POLITICS & PROTOCOL 
Embassy Reception for FM KneisslOn February 26 Ambassador Öppinger-Walchshofer hosted a reception at the Austrian Embassy Residence on the occasion of the visit of the Austrian Foreign Minister. Embassy representatives, Austrians living in India and staff of the Austrian Embassy were excited to hear FM Kneissl speak.  ECONOMY
‘The Shades of Leadership’ – EventOn January 14 the Ambassador felicitated Mr Raman Sidhu and handed him the award for excellent leadership of ‘speakin’. During the event, Mr Sidhu (Chairman of the EBG Federation, which supports Indian and European enterprises) got honoured for his tireless engagement for business.   ECONOMY
Andritz Ullmer received Honorary DoctorateOn April 3 the Austrian executive director of the Austrian Company ANDRITZ Hydin India, Josef Ullmer, received an Honorary Doctorate of the Chitkara University in Punjab. The Ambassador and the Director of the Cultural Forum of the Embassy participated in the Event and congratulated Dr HC Ullmer for this honour. Read more here  CULTURE
Alpine Dweller in India & NepalThe young musicians of Alpine Dweller Joana Karácsonyi, Flora Geißelbrecht and Matthias Schinnerl visited India and Nepal in March for multiple concerts. They played also at the Austrian Ambassador’s Residence for culture enthusiasts in a very special concert setting.   CULTURE
Ria Georgiadis und Sven Birch in ConcertACF invited to a musical evening at the Residence on March 25. Greek-Austrian Ria Georgiadis and Danish soloist and musical educator Sven Birch have been working together as a duo for more than 17 years.   CULTURE
Author Schierl-Montfort reading in IndiaAustrian Peter Schierl-Montfort was reading at the Cultural Forum on April 2 and also at theGoethe-Institut at Max Mueller Bhavan New Delhi on Sunday morning of March 31. The author was reading of his book about an Indian student discovering his passion for yodelling.  EDUCATION & SCIENCE
Raisina DialogueThis year‘s Raisina Dialogue under the overall theme „A World Reorder – new geometries / fluid partnerships / uncertain outcomes“ has started on 8 January in the Taj Palace Hotel in Delhi. Two lady researchers from Austria in the field of security and counter-terrorism are participating as speakers.  EDUCATION & SCIENCE
End-of-school-year Party at Vivekananda CampChintan Foundation organized a lively prize-giving ceremony at the camp, a settlement of the underprivileged waste picker community. Embassy representatives, who had recently co-sponsored a project of the foundation, took part in the ceremony on March 28.  TOURISM
OW Workshop seriesThe National Tourist Office held its annual roadshow from February 4 to February 8. The roadshow was held in Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Delhi. Delegates from local tourist boards, incoming agencies, attractions, hotels and travel partners were part of the roadshow to showcase Austria as a destination for the summer.  APPLY
Ost-West MusikfestOst-West Musikfest organizes courses for children and teenagers at the Music School St.Pölten. The masterclasses are conducted by internationally renowned professors from institutes in Vienna, Moscow, Odessa, Tokyo, Berne and Brussels.  APPLY

Mayor in Kathmandu welcomes FMOn the first day of the official visit to Nepal, Austria‘s Foreign Minister Kneissl was greeted by the Mayor of Patan. She visited the Patan Palace and museum which was partly restored by Prof. Gabriele Krist and her team from the Vienna University for Applied Arts. The minister pledged the continuation of Austria‘s assistance to Nepal for the Restauration of cultural heritage.  POLITICS & PROTOCOL 
Austrian FM meets Indian FMIndia – the last country of the South Asia trip of FM Karin Kneissl. On the first day of her stay in New Delhi, Ms Kneissl met her colleague Sushma Swaraj. The two Foreign Ministersexchanged views on bilateral and multilateral relations as well as on the an expansion of trade.  POLITICS & PROTOCOL 
EU Policy Dialogue in MaléThe Ambassador participated in the 4thMaldives-EU Policy Dialogue in Malé on March 11. The Ministers of the new government discussed with the EU Ambassadors how best EU institutions and the EU Member States can assist the government of the Maldives to implement its vision for the development of the islands.   ECONOMY
Austrian Bio-Diesel plant in MumbaiAmbassador Öppinger-Walchshofer participated in the opening of the Austrian Bio-Diesel plant of Münzer-Bharat in Navi Mumbai on February 14. The plant uses an ‘energy from waste’-technology, which makes use of utilised vegetable cooking oil to produce the bio-diesel.

UNESCO Blueprinters in IndiaBlueprinting got recognized as Cultural Heritage of UNESCO. Therefore Austrian printers Karl & Maria Wagner got invited India. ‘We visited 5 printing families during our 2620 km journey. We were received very openly and warmly everywhere and were able to visit their workshops. The exchange of experiences was very fascinating and enriching for us.‘ so Karl Wagner after his journey.  CULTURE
Jazzmed at JazzfestivalThe ensemble Jazzmed consists of six Austrian musicians, who created the music project to support ‘Doctors Without Borders’ and to create awareness. The supergroup came to India to perform at the Austrian Ambassador’s Residence and the Jazzfest in New Delhi at Nehru Park in Chanakyapuri.  CULTURE
Austrian Artist David Leitner at Start+IndiaAustrian street artist David Leitner painted a wall for Lodhi Art District (Lodhi Colony) in cooperation with Start+India in spring this year. The topic of his concept circled around plastic waste and the effects on communities and nature.  EDUCATION & SCIENCE
EU-India Think TanksOn the onset of the Raisina Dialogue in New Delhi, the most important side event was EU-India Think Tanks Annual Conference in the Taj Hotel on January 1. It brought together think tanks from India and the EU to discuss how to best cooperate as partners in shaping global affairs.  EDUCATION & SCIENCE
Theology students at the EmbassyThe students of the University of Vienna visited the Austrian Embassy in New Delhi on February 12 to conclude their study trip of several weeks. The students were received by Ambassador Brigitte Öppinger-Walchshofer and Matthias Radosztics.  TOURISM
Winter Tourism in AustriaDuring the past winter months nearly 20.000 Indians – 16 per cent more than the year before – travelled to Austria to experience various Christmas markets, snow-capped peaks, après-ski and Austrian hospitality in the Winter months.

OLA- Campaign 2019The Austrian National Tourist Office recently concluded a promotion campaign with OLA cabs which appeared in 27 Indian cities. OLA used the code “Austria” for the participants to enter the contest to win a trip including air tickets for two persons to Austria. 250.000 people reached out to Ola applying this code and you can still use it.  APPLY
Journalism Scholarships for AustriaThe Austrian Foreign Ministry is offering a 2-week summer scholarship program for promising young journalists (Print, Online, TV or radio) from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, Maldives or Sri Lanka. Applicants must be under 35 years of age, have an official press accreditation in their country of origin and be specialized either in Foreign Affairs, International Finance or Economy or Culture. Applicants are requested to send a short resume of their activities not later than Tuesday, April 23 here. Stay up to date
