Lessons from Namami Gange will help clean Maharashtra Rivers 



Maharashtra Rivers will be cleaned based on the knowledge gained from the Namami Gange Program. An MOU has been signed between NMCG and Maharashtra Water Resources Regulatory Authority for knowledge exchange and capacity building.


This includes knowledge on the concept of e-flow, community engagement and stakeholder mobilisation, setting up a dedicated pooled fund for “Maharashtra State Mission for Clean Rivers” on the lines of “Clean Ganga Fund”, developing proposals for setting up new and or revamping existing STPs and WWTPs and designing and developing institutions aimed at adopting a bottoms up approach for governing the source of rural point and non-point pollutants on the lines of “Ganga Gram’.


Similarly, the institutional setup of the Maharashtra Water Resource Regulatory Authority along with its framework for regulations would be helpful to NMCG for Development and strengthening of similar practices in Ganga basin.


Shri Rajiv Kishor, ED Admin, NMCG  and Shri Vinod Tiwari, Member (Law)  Maharashtra Water Resources Regulatory Authority signed the MOU on the behalf of their respective organisations. Shri Rajiv Ranjan Mishra, DG, NMCG and other senior officials of the Ministry were also present on the occasion.
