Bolivia’s President Evo Morales has enlisted the military to fight forest fires ravaging the country
Forest fires have been raging in the Brazilian Amazon, as well as in neighboring Bolivia.
Massive fires across Bolivia, including the country’s share of the Amazon rainforest, have continued for about a month, burning a total of about 10,000 square kilometers of land.
Footage shows what had been rich forests turned into charred stretches of land, with animal carcasses scattered around.
Ranches close to forests are struggling to stave off blazes and are also reportedly facing shortages of livestock feed.
The Bolivian government has declared a state of emergency and sent tanker aircraft to extinguish the fires. But the blazes are not yet contained.
