Sweden Lawyer HO Lilja shot

Henrick Olsson Lilja, a prominent Swedish lawyer who initially represented US rapper ASAP Rocky in his recent assault case, was shot multiple times after leaving an apartment building in Stockholm.

The attack, which is thought to be related to the New York rapper’s case, occurred early Friday morning on the 6th of September. Lilja’s assistant said that the lawyer was conscious and able to speak while paramedics drove to Karolinska University Hospital where his condition has since been stabilized, Sveriges Radio reports.

The Swedish lawyer had initially represented ASAP Rocky after the rapper’s arrest in Stockholm for assaulting an Afghan migrant, but was later replaced by another lawyer.

Police have told the press that one man has been arrested and faces charges of attempted murder. Another woman – a senior lawyer who allegedly had connections with Mr. Lilja – was also taken into police custody and is currently being questioned, Expressen reports.

A number of theories concerning the motive of the shooting have been circulating throughout the Swedish media landscape. Lilja is reported to have told police that an individual with a grudge against him could have hired a hitman to take him out, or that it could’ve been related to previous cases he had worked on.

Gun violence, a previously non-existent problem in Sweden, has increased substantially over the last few years. In 2018, the country saw a record number of fatal shootings.

Swedish police experts have described the current situation regarding gun violence in the country as “reminiscent of some form of state at war.” VoE
