United States has said that it will curb visas for Chinese officials over repression of Uighurs and other Muslims in the western region of Xinjiang.

United States on Tuesday said it would curb visas for Chinese officials until Beijing ends its “repression” of Uighurs and other Muslims in the western region of Xinjiang, a day after imposing commercial restrictions

In a statement, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that the United States calls on China to immediately end its campaign of repression in Xinjiang. The move adds to tensions between the US and China only a day before the high-stakes trade talks resume tomorrow.
