Guru Nanak’s 550th birth anniversary

Various programmes being organized to celebrate Guru Purab this year

To celebrate Guru Purab this year on the occasion of 550th birth Anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Dev ji, various programmes are being organized in Punjab and other parts of country. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Integrated Check Post of the Kartarpur Corridor at Dera Baba Nanak, Gurdaspur in Punjab tomorrow. Prior to the event, Mr Modi will pay obeisance at Ber Sahib Gurudwara at Sultanpur Lodhi. Later, Prime Minister will participate in a public programme at Dera Baba Nanak.

The inauguration of the ICP would facilitate, Indian Piligrims to visit to Gurudwara Kartapur Sahib in Pakistan. India has signed the Agreement with Pakistan on the 24th of last month on the modalities for operationalization of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor at Zero Point, International Boundary, Dera Baba Nanak.

Union Cabinet had passed a resolution November last year to celebrate the historic occasion of 550th Birth Anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Devji in a grand and befitting manner, throughout the country and across the globe. Union Cabinet also approved the building and development of the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor from Dera Baba Nanak to the International Boundary to facilitate pilgrims from India to visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur round the year, in a smooth and easy manner.

In Sultanpur Lodhi, Shri Amritsar Sahib and Dera Baba Nanak, religious and cultural programmes, laser, light and sound shows are going on day and night depicting the life of Guru Nanak Dev and propagating his messages. Ministry of External Affairs has organised a Sikh Youth Conference on 550th Prakash Purab of Shri Guru Nanak Dev ji. 

The Sikh youth from 11 countries like USA, UK, Canada, Australia, who were at Takht Patna Sahib yesterday, will reach Amritsar today. They will visit Guru Nanak Dev University, Partition Museum and Gurudwara Shri Harmandir Sahib. The purpose of the Sikh youth conference is to give message of universal brotherhood to the World.
