Certain immigrant groups hit by higher rates of coronavirus infection

The coronavirus is infecting some groups of foreign born people at disproportionately higher rates, Sweden’s Public Health Agency said on Tuesday.
Officials said they aware that releasing the data on ethnicity and the coronavirus could lead to these groups being stigmatized. But state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell claims that the benefits of having it public and getting people to take precautions outweighs any possible stereotypes. He says that while it is too early to look into the reasons why, he believes socio-economic factors are important.
Information campaigns to immigrant groups in languages other than Swedish are ongoing.
Svante Werger, an advisor at the Swedish Civil Contingencies agency, says often what’s more important is how and where the message is being sent.
