Atlanta police official sacked

Rayshard Brooks who was shot dead by police as he tried to escape arrest.

Police Officials in the southern US city of Atlanta have dismissed a police officer who fatally shot a black man during an attempted arrest on Friday.

US media outlets report that an autopsy has been released. They say it indicates that the man was shot twice in the back.

City officials do not believe that the use of a firearm was justified. Judicial authorities have launched an investigation.

More than 100 people gathered to protest near the site of the incident on Sunday. They held up placards with the words “Black Lives Matter” written on them. They also demanded a severe punishment for the terminated police officer. Some people carried flowers to mourn the victim.
Anti-racism rallies and protests for police reform are continuing across the United States.

The demonstrations were sparked by the death of George Floyd. He died in police custody in the state of Minnesota last month.

Protesters near Los Angeles painted the message “All Black Lives Matter” in huge block letters on a street.

People calling for the protection of the rights of sexual minorities joined rallies in New York. The protesters said black transgender women have a high risk of being victims of violence.
