New Zealand Police officer has reportedly died and another has been injured in an incident west of Auckland.
Two police officers have been shot and seriously injured after a “routine traffic stop” in Auckland, New Zealand.
“At around 10.30am, a police unit has performed a routine traffic stop on Reynella Drive. There have been shots fired at police officers. Two officers have been shot and have been seriously injured,” the posts read.
“A member of the public has also been hit by the vehicle and has been injured.”
New Zealand media later reported that three people had been taken to hospital and one of the officers was dead.
The shooter fled the scene in Massey in a vehicle and has not been caught.
Police in New Zealand do not normally carry guns, and it is rare for officers to be killed in the line of duty.
