Today is 78th anniversary of Quit India movement.
On 8th August 1942, Mahatma Gandhi gave call for Quit India in his famous ‘Do or Die’ speech.
The Quit India Movement or the India August Movement, was launched at the Bombay session of the All India Congress Committee by Mahatma Gandhi ji demanding an end to the British Rule of India.
The demand was complete independence from the British, following which almost the entire Congress leadership was jailed.

The movement had begun from Gawalia Tank in Mumbai. The day is observed as August Kranti Day .
