Today is 78th anniversary of Quit India movement.

On 8th August 1942, Mahatma Gandhi gave call for Quit India in his famous ‘Do or Die’ speech.

The Quit India Movement or the India August Movement, was launched at the Bombay session of the All India Congress Committee by Mahatma Gandhi ji demanding an end to the British Rule of India.

The demand was complete independence from the British, following which almost the entire Congress leadership was jailed.

Today is the 78th anniversary of Quit India movement. On this day in 1942, father of the nation Mahatma Gandhi gave the clarion call of Do or Die to all Indians to drive away Britishers from the country. 

The movement had begun from Gawalia Tank in Mumbai. The day is observed as August Kranti Day .

A movement launched at the Bombay session by All-India Congress Committee by Mahatma Gandhi on 8 August 1942, during WW II, demanding an end to British Rule of India where M K Gandhiji made a call to Do or Die in his Quit India speech delivered in Bombay at Gowalia Tank Maidan.
