Train derails in Aberdeenshire

UK Secretary of State for Transport Grant Shapps has been briefed on the incident and confirmed that British Transport Police & Network Rail resources had been deployed to the scene amid a major operation.

The train, which was travelling on the Dundee-Aberdeen line, came off the tracks just before 10 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

Emergency services, train derailment in Aberdeenshire. British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to the scene at 9.43am and remain there alongside paramedics and the fire brigade.” Scotland Minister Nicola described the derailment as an “extremely serious incident”

“I’ve had an initial report from Network Rail and the emergency services and am being kept updated,” she posted on Twitter.
