Kariye Museum to Mosque

Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan reconverted the historic Chora church, one of Istanbul’s most celebrated Byzantine buildings, into a mosque on Friday, a month after opening the famed Hagia Sophia to Muslim worship.

The mediaeval Church of the Holy Saviour in Chora, built near the ancient city walls of Constantinople, contains 14th century Byzantine mosaics and frescoes showing scenes from biblical stories.

Kariye Museum includes elements of multiple cultures.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday ordered another ancient Orthodox church that became a mosque and then a popular Istanbul museum to be turned back into a place of Muslim worship.

Turkey after Hagia Sophia has ordered the Re-conversion of 1000-Years old (14th century) Orthodox Byzantine Monastery of Chora (Kariye) church, which has served as a Museum since 1945, into a Mosque & opened it to Worship.
