3rd Phase JK DDC Election

All arrangements in place for third phase of District Development Council, DDC elections and Panchayat by-polls in Jammu&Kashmir

In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, all arrangements are in place for third phase of District Development Council, DDC elections and Panchayat by-polls tomorrow. State Election Commissioner, K K Sharma said that adequate security arrangements  have been made in all the poll going areas to ensure smooth and peacefull elections.

Radio Media Jammu Correspondent reports that out of 280 DDC constituencies in the Union Territory, voting to be conducted in 33 constituencies, including 16 from Kashmir and 17 from Jammu Division in this phase. Voting will be held from 7 AM to 2 PM Friday . Total 305 candidates are in the electoral fray including 166 from Kashmir and 139 from Jammu division in this phase. Out of 305 candidates, 252 are male whereas 53 are female.

As far as by-polls for Sarpanches are concerned, out of 126 constituencies, polling to take place in 66 constituencies and a total of 184 candidates are contesting in phase III Friday . 40 Sarpanch constituencies have been filled unopposed.

Similarly, in Panch by-elections, there are 1738 constituencies, and out of them 798 have been elected unopposed. Polling will take place in 327 constituencies and there are 749 candidates in fray. During the third phase of polling, 7,37,648 electors are eligible to cast their votes which includes 3,85,675 males and 3,51,973 females. Out of 7,37,648 voters 3,74,604 are from Jammu and 3,63,044 are from Kashmir division. 2046 polling stations including 792 in Jammu and 1254 in Kashmir division, have been setup for the Phase III elections.

Special Polling Stations at Women College Gandhinagar, Jammu and Girls Higher Secondary School Udhampur have been setup to facilitate physical voting by Kashmiri Migrants.
