Karnataka local body election 2020: 3,019 #gram panchayats go to polls in first phase.

Karnataka, the first phase of election to the 3019 Gram Panchayats in 117 taluks. There are 1,17,383 candidates in fray for 48048 seats. 

The voting will begin at 7.00 am and conclude at 5.00 pm. The State Election Commission had announced a two-phase poll to be held on December 22 and 27. In both the phases, 2.96 crore electors will vote to elect 92,121 gram panchayat members in all. As many as 45,128 polling booths will be set up, and about 2.7 lakh polling officials will be deployed to oversee elections. 

Polling results will be announced on December 30. The election to four constituencies in Bellary was countermanded by the Election Commission following reports of auction of the seats. The Commission has made it clear that no political parties or their leaders will be allowed to campaign for the candidates as these are not party based elections.

Polling underway for Panchayat & Municipal Bodies elections in Arunachal Pradesh.

Arunachal Pradesh, polling is underway for Panchayat and Municipal Bodies elections. Voting, which began at 7 this morning, will end at 4 pm. AIR correspondent reports, polling is being held in 1702 Gram Panchayat seats and 141 Zila Parishad Constituencies.
 
This is the first Panchayati Raj elections in the state after the three-tier system was converted to two-tier panchayat system. For the two Municipal bodies of Itanagar and Pasighat in the state, polling is being held for 23 wards of the total 28.
 
Seeing the pandemic situation, the State Election Commission has decided to have separates queues for differently abled and the elderly persons in the polling stations. The commission has also made provisions for COVID positive patients for voting. As per SoP, such persons can vote after 3 PM.

Counting of votes for District Development Council (DDC)  elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be taken up this morning. Counting for all 280 constituencies will begin at 9 AM. 

The fate of 2,181 candidates will be decided in today’s counting. Polling in the union territory was held in eight phases between November 28 and December 19. An overall 51 percent polling was recorded during the eight phases.
