Pak -Mob Demolishes Hindu Temple

KP police arrested Maulvi Mohammad Sharif the main culprit behind attack on a Hindu Temple in Karak district Pakistan.

Radical mob led by members of Pakistan”s radical Islamist party demolished a temple after setting it on fire in a deeply conservative northwestern town, a senior police official said.

Police inspect the burned Hindu temple a day after a mob attack in a remote village in the Karak district, some 160 kilometers southeast of Peshawar, on December 31.

Pakistani officials say at least 31 people have been arrested after a mob of hundreds of people attacked and set ablaze a century-old Hindu shrine.

Local police said on December 31 that raids were under way to arrest individuals involved in the attack the previous day in the Karak district of northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.

Rahmat Salam Khattak, a leader of the Islamist Jamiat Ulema-e Islam (JUI) party and former district administrator, is among those already detained.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police has arrested more than 31 suspects and registered a case against 350 people for their alleged involvement in the vandalising of a Hindu temple in Karak district. 

Karak DPO Irfanullah said JUI-F district leader Maulana Mirza Aqeem is also nominated in the case. He added that the security officials were conducting raids to detain suspects. 

A day earlier, an angry mob attacked and set ablaze the shrine of a Hindu saint in Karak. Video clips going viral on social media show hordes of people breaking and desecrating the site while chanting slogans. Smoke could also be seen emitting from the shrine after it was set on fire.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed took suo-motu notice of the incident after a meeting with Pakistan Hindu Council chief patron Dr Ramesh Kumar. The case will be heard in the apex court on January 5.

The top court has also sought a report from the National Commission of Minorities as well as police chief and chief secretary of the northwestern province by January 4.Pakistan media reports.
