Tunisian PM sacks Interior minister

Tunisian Prime Minister Hichem Mechichi on Tuesday sacked his interior Minister, close to President Kais Saied, tussle between the country’s two most powerful leaders.

PM will serve as acting interior minister until the appointment of new minister.

No reasons were given for dismissal of Interior Minister Taoufik Charfeddine.

With the dismissal of Interior Minister Taoufik Charfeddine, bring into a crisis the government threatening a collapse of the technocratic government.

Tunisia is the Arab country to have managed a peaceful transition to democracy after the “Arab Spring” uprisings that swept through the region in 2011.

Nation of political discord in Tunisia focused on the split between secularists and Islamists, or over economic reforms, recent tensions seem rooted in the division of powers between president and parliament.
