Estonia ‘s PM Jüri Ratas, has resigned over a corruption scandal in his Center Party that led to key party officials resigning overnight, and talks began today among political parties.
Juri Ratas has resigned but denies any wrongdoing after a probe was opened into his ruling Center Party and its links with an Estonian businessman. A company owned by a party donor got a state loan with generous terms.
PM Jüri Ratas has resigned after police and prosecutors launched an investigation into an alleged corruption scandal involving his left-leaning Centre party, bringing down the centre-right coalition government that also includes a far-right party.
The investigation centers on the Porto Franco property company. Porto Franco received a large state loan and struck a lucrative deal with city authorities in the capital, Tallinn, whose mayor is also from the party.
The owner of the company’s father, businessman Hillar Teder, donated large sums to the Center Party.
The move automatically prompts the resignation of #Estonia ‘s three-party coalition government but does not automatically mean a new election.
