Centre to provide free food grains to poor people for two month

Centre will provide free food grains to the poor people for the upcoming two month under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana. Under this scheme, five kilogram per person per month food grains will be provided in May and June of this year. Government has decided to provide free food-grains to nearly 80 crore beneficiaries covered under National Food Security Act, NFSA. Consumer Affairs Ministry said, the NFSA beneficiaries belonging to both Antyodaya Anna Yojana and Priority Householders categories will get the allocation, over and above their regular monthly NFSA entitlement.

Last year, the government had provided the benefits to the people during the COVID 19 pandemic. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stressed that it is important that the poor people of the country have nutritional support when the country is facing the second wave of coronavirus. He said, government will spend more than 26 thousand crore on this initiative.
