Indian basketball teams set to participate in Beijing leg of the 3×3 FIBA World Tour

New Delhi/Bengaluru (14 August 2015): Two teams from India are set to participate in the Beijing Masters leg of the 2015 FIBA 3×3 World Tour that will be held on 15th-16th August in China. Fresh off their recent South Asian 3×3 qualifiers win in Colombo, the Indian senior men’s team, termed as team “Bangalore” and comprising Rajesh Uppar, Siddhant Shinde, Jeevanantham Pandi and Basil Philip, few out to Beijing last night.

A second team, of youngsters Kushmeet Atwal, Arshpreet Bhullar, Arshdeep Dhillon and Rajveer Singh (all from Punjab’s Ludhiana Basketball Academy), has also qualified for the event (as team “Chandigarh”) after winning a national 3×3 event organised by the National Basketball Association in India (called NBA “Jam”) in December 2014.

The Bangalore team is seeded 9th and placed in Pool A with Novisad Alwahda (UAE) and Zheng Zhou (China). The Chandigarh team is seeded 12th and placed in Pool D with Tokyo (Japan) and Wukesong (China).

About Beijing Masters

The third stage of the 2015 FIBA 3×3 World Tour will be held in Beijing China on 15-16 August 2015. The twelve best teams from the qualifiers held in the Beijing catchment area compete for two days for the pride to represent their city, a USD 10,000 cheque and a chance (for the two finalists) to qualify for the FIBA 3×3 World Tour Final in Abu Dhabi on 15-16 October 2015.

The 12 teams are divided into four pools of three teams playing in a round-robin first round against their two respective pool opponents. The top-two placed teams from each pool advance to a standard knock-out round which starts at the quarter-finals stage. The two best teams qualify for the FIBA 3×3 World Tour Final, which will be staged in Abu Dhabi on 15-16 October 2015. About the FIBA 3×3 World Tour

The FIBA 3×3 World Tour is the pinnacle event of an ‘;open’; network of FIBA-endorsed 3×3 tournaments. Any group of four players – regardless of their nationality and representing a city – can qualify for the FIBA 3×3 World Tour by taking part in a lower level/regional tournament, eventually making their way to the world stage.

The FIBA 3×3 World Tour was first launched in 2012. The former winners are San Juan (PUR, 2012), Brezovica (SLO, 2013) and Novi Sad (SRB, 2014).

It consists of six Masters tournaments, before culminating with the FIBA 3×3 World Tour Final. The schedule of the 2015 edition is the following:

They are in line with FIBA’;s “3×3 for everyone philosophy” as spectators and passers-by are invited to participate in 3×3 games and activities.

About 3×3 Basketball- Basic Rules

  • Four members per team. Three active players on court at all times, with one rolling substitute.
  • Played using only one half of a traditional basketball court.
  • Scoring:

o   Traditional three point shots from behind the arc will be awarded 2 points

o   Every shot inside the arc is awarded 1 point.

o   Every successful freethrow is awarded 1 point.

  • Match duration: 10 minutes (with stoppages for dead ball situations and freethrows)
  • The team which scores 21 points or more within the match duration, wins the game. If neither team is able to reach 21 points, then the team with the higher points after the conclusion of 10 minutes is declared the winner.
  • If the scores are tied, then an extra period of time is played. Here the first team to score 2 points in overtime wins the game.
  • Each offensive possession will be for 12 seconds only.
  • Following each successful field goal or made free throw, a player from the non-scoring team will resume the game by dribbling or passing the ball from inside the court directly underneath the basket (not from behind the end line) to a place on the court behind the arc.
  • If the defensive team steals or blocks the ball, it must return the ball behind the arc (by passing or dribbling).

Oil prices skid to fresh lows in Asian trade

Oil prices slide to fresh lows in Asian tradeOil prices extended losses in Asia on Wednesday as dealers worried about China´s economy following its surprise currency devaluation, while oversupply concerns also added to downward pressure, analysts said.US benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) for September delivery fell five cents to $43.03 while Brent crude for September slipped 35 cents to $48.83 in late-morning trade.

WTI on Tuesday sank to its lowest level since March 2009, while Brent also fell in London, after China´s central bank moved to devalue its currency by nearly two percent against the US dollar.

The People´s Bank of China again lowered the daily fix that sets the value of the Chinese currency against the greenback on Wednesday by 1.62 percent, sending a new shockwave through financial markets.

“The Chinese yuan continues to weaken for the second day, which could suggest further weakening of oil prices,” said Daniel Ang, an investment analyst at Phillip Futures in Singapore.

Investors fear Beijing´s move signalled concerns over growth in the world´s second-largest economy and top energy consumer, which came after data published over the weekend showed a slump in Chinese trade.

It also pushed up the greenback, which strengthened further against Asian currencies on Wednesday, which hurts dollar-denominated commodity prices by making them more expensive for international buyers.

Ang said prices were also under pressure after the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) said output in July rose by 100,700 barrels per day from the previous month to 31.5 million barrels per day.

“An increase in OPEC production is certainly not ideal for the oversupplied market at this point in time,” Ang said.

The producer cartel´s refusal to cut its output level despite sagging demand is seen as a reason for a prolonged global oversupply, which has seen prices fall to almost a third of their mid-2014 peak.

Analysts have said the move is an attempt by the cartel´s kingpin Saudi Arabia to defend its market share as it fends off competition from US shale oil.

Dealers will next focus on US crude stockpiles data to be released on Wednesday for clues on demand in the world´s top crude consumer, Ang said.

The scheduled Monsoon Session of Parliament has concluded today. Politically, this session was very educative but, frustrating. Parliament represents the best in Indian democracy. ‘Parliamentary paralysis without an issue’ signifies the vulnerability of the system.
The importance of GST need not be overstated. It converts the whole country into one economic market. It facilitates the smooth and seamless transfer of goods and services. It reduces harassment and corruption. It mandates a uniform tax regime. It eliminates ‘Tax on Tax’. It adds buoyancy to tax revenue and has a favourable impact on the GDP. The GST has received consistent support from most mainstream parties. The Congress / UPA government announced this idea in 2006 and it introduced the Bill in 2011. Today, it seeks to go back on the GST. The objections in the Congress Party’s dissent note are contradictory and trivial. The Parliamentary numbers are loaded against the Congress. It, therefore, relies on disturbance and lung power to prevent its consideration by the Rajya Sabha. The Congress is well aware that any delay in passage of the Constitution Amendment which has been accepted by most States will result in at least one year’s delay. That appears to be the Congress’ strategy. National interest is least on its priority.
The Congress party has exhibited that it continues to be enslaved to a family. It is willing to compromise national interest and policy merely because the family is unable to digest its electoral defeat in 2014. India’s loss in this Session is not Congress party’s gain. There is popular disapproval of its policies of ‘disruption without a cause’. The debate in Lok Sabha yesterday clearly demonstrated the hollowness of Congress party’s argument.
The Congress party President, Smt. Sonia Gandhi, hit a new low. It is for the first time that a senior-most leader of a mainstream party has jumped into the well of the House. Even the pretext of stature and dignity was not maintained. As for Shri Rahul Gandhi, there was no serious expectation that he would raise the level of the debate. He has failed to recognise the difference between sloganeering and a Parliamentary speech. The more he grows, the more he immatures. Aggressive body language is never a substitute for substance. It is the NDA Government which brought a tough law against illegal foreign assets. It is the NDA Government which is taking effective steps to bring to book the alleged offender around whom the present controversy is centred.
This Session has educated and enlightened public opinion that India’s economic interests are being held to ransom by the political frustration of the Congress party. India stands educated, though frustrated. The anger emerging out of this frustration will provide India the answer to face this challenge.

O P Munjal of Hero Group passes away

Hero Group's O P Munjal passes away
OP Munjal, Founder Chairman Emeritus of Hero Cycles and one of the founders of Hero Group,  passed away earlier today in Ludhiana. The 86-year-old industry veteran was facing health related issues for the past few months. He is survived by one son, four daughters, a daughter-in-law, four son-in-laws and 10 grandchildren. The cremation will take place tomorrow (August 14, 2015) in Ludhiana.Munjal  last month ceded Chairmanship of Hero Motors group and retired from an active role in the business.  Pankaj Munjal succeeded him as the Chairman and Managing Director of the Group.
OP Munjal, with his three brothers Brijmohan Lall Munjal, Dayanand Munjal and Satyanand Munjal started a bicycle spare parts business in Amritsar In 1944. They subsequently moved their base to Ludhiana naming the company ‘Hero’ and set up India’s first bicycle manufacturing unit in 1956. During 1980s Hero Cycles became the largest bicycle manufacturer by volume in the world. Shri Munjal, who led Hero Cycles for almost 60 years, also helped Hero Cycles in diversifying to other businesses such as auto parts manufacturing and hospitality. Under his able guidance, the company grew from its humble beginnings to a Rs 3000 crore industrial house. He also served as President of All India Cycle Manufacturers’ Association.

Tianjin port twin blasts

Two blasts shook the northeastern Chinese city of Tianjin late on Wednesday. Some 700 people have been injured, 71 critically, and 50 are dead, according to the latest report by Xinhua news agency.Many of the injuries being treated at the hospital are from broken glass or stones, Lu Yun, head of the nearby Taida Hospital, told the Xinhua News Agency.

A total of 12 firefighters have been confirmed dead, according to Chinese state television. Authorities have lost contact with 36 other firefighters, Xinhua reported.The blast had erupted from a shipment of explosives in a key industrial zone in Binhai New Area at about 11:30 pm local time (3:30 pm GMT), state broadcaster China Central Television said. The initial blast triggered a suspected petrol explosion in an adjacent reservoir.

U Mumba beat Bengaluru

U MUMBA BEAT BENGALURU BULLS TO RECLAIM TOP SPOT August 12:Captain Anup Kumar has a cool head and he proved it yet again by marshalling his resources in an astute manner to lead U Mumba to a 36-29 over hosts Bengaluru Bulls in Season 2 of Star Sports Pro Kabaddi today. At the Kanteerava Stadium it was the Mumbai defence which played a major role in their creditable win with Anup prodding his hit men.

 The first half saw Mohit Chhillar and Surender Nada trap their rivals’ star raider Ajay Thakur as many as four times. And if one sees it in the context of the match then Bengaluru captain Manjeet Chillar, being on the bench for close to 18 minutes, harmed them a lot. 

The result has allowed U Mumba to reclaim the top spot with 50 points. Bengaluru who are still in the hunt for a semis berth have 32 points. They just about managed to squeeze one today by reducing the margin of defeat to seven. They thus displaced Jaipur Pink Panthers to occupy the third spot. Manjeet Chhillar who took upon himself the onus of raiding should be credited for that. He collected five points towards the end despite losing two to a super tackle.

Mumba after being in front saw their rivals equalise at 7-7, but once Rajesh Mondal, Ajay Thakur and Pradeep Narwal were trapped one after the other Bengaluru had to soon face an all-out in the 17th minute of play. Mumba received a minor setback when Bhupinder Singh had to be stretchered off but the brave youngster returned in the second half. The winners led 18-13 at half-time.

Anup continued his raids which were more tactical. 

U Mumba preferred to rely on their defence in the second half. Substitute D Sureshu too served them well. He filled in well for Bhupender by scoring two raiding points and also aiding in defence. Rishank Devadiga also contributed his might with four points. To Mumba’s advantage Ajay Thakur failed to get any momentum. Pradeep Narwal and substitute Rakesh Narwal too failed to prop the Bengaluru attack. And once rival Jeeva Kumar who was subdued for some time started getting his ankle and thigh holds right to net six points Bengaluru’s defeat was imminent.

U Mumba never looked back thereafter as they went from strength to strength to inflict the second all-out to lead 34-22 with about six minutes left. Manjeet tried his best but that proved inadequate in the end. The Bulls face Jaipur Pink Panthers tomorrow and this will be a crucial tie for both as a win will bring one of them closer to their goal.

Captain Anup Kumar was as cool as ever after yet another victory for U Mumba. “I have heard that people think we are the toughest competition in the league and I am proud of this team which is called the toughest competition. Our job is to come out and be our best and play our best – that’s what we are doing here. And I am happy with the team because of that. We have a strong defence and that is an amazing thing. But it is better because we have a strong team and that is what makes a great team.”

This win was the icing on top of the cake for U Mumba who have already qualified for the play-offs. “I am grateful for having qualified for the play-offs. We need to keep our heads down and keep working hard.” said Anup Kumar.

On World Youth Day UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador

Priyanka Chopra’s Message to Adolescents

 

New Delhi, 12th August 2015-UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Priyanka Chopra today emphasised the importance of stepping up the fight against adolescent anaemia*, regarded as a major health problem among adolescents in developing countries including India.

“One out of two young girls and one out of three young boys in India are anaemic. Anaemia is a serious health problem not only in rural but also in the urban areas. Anaemia can be prevented by taking iron-rich diet, Iron and Folic Acid (IFA) tablets once a week and deworming tablets every six months. It is really that simple,” Priyanka said addressing the youth from across the county, in a short film http://unicf.in/1L4QFhc released today to mark the World Youth Day.

The film highlights the importance of the Government of India’s Weekly Iron and Folic Acid Supplementation (WIFS) programme for adolescents. The programme was launched in 2012 to reduce severity and prevalence of nutritional anaemia in adolescents between 15 and 19 years. As many as 56 per cent girls and 30 per cent boys in this age group in India are anaemic, according to the National Family Health Survey (NFHS) 3 data. This group comprises one-fourth of India’s population and is a key driver of its future economic growth.

Dr. Sushma Dureja, Deputy Commissioner, Adolescent Health said, “The target for WIFS programme are adolescent girls and boys in government,  government aided and municipal schools, between classes 6 and 12 along with out of school adolescent girls . The aim is to improve the iron stores in the adolescent population thereby addressing the problem of anaemia caused by nutritional deficiency.”

The WIFS programme, which also covers out-of-school adolescent girls through Anganwadi centers, uses a proven and highly effective solution of providing (free of cost) weekly supplementation of deworming tablets, along with screening and counselling services.

The programme has four components namely, supervised ingestion of weekly iron and folic acid tablet, screening for moderate or severe anaemia and referral to nearest health facility,  deworming treatment every six months and nutrition and health education to encourage consumption of locally available iron-rich food and preventing parasitic infections.

Research shows that after the first year of life, adolescence is the second highest growth spurt period. Adolescents, if given the right nutrition, gain up to 50 per cent of their adult weight, more than 20 percent of their adult height, and 50 percent of their adult bone mass during this period.

Lack of iron in diets, perpetuates the inter-generational cycle of anaemia whereby anaemic women give birth to children with low body iron stores, resulting in irreversible consequences on children’s health and development.

Worldwide, it is estimated that about 20 per cent of maternal deaths are caused by anaemia; in addition, anaemia contributes partly to 50 per cent of all maternal deaths.

* The prevalence of anaemia (Haemoglobin value of <12 g% in girls and Haemoglobin value of  < 13g% in boys) is high amongst adolescents in India as per the report of  NFHS-III and the National Nutrition Monitoring Bureau Survey.

Naresh —You might hear some news over the next few days about Hillary Clinton’s emails. Because you are an important part of this team, we wanted to take a few minutes to talk through the facts — we need your help to make sure they get out there.

There’s a lot of misinformation, so bear with us; the truth matters on this.

Here are the basics: Like other Secretaries of State who served before her, Hillary used a personal email address, and the rules of the State Department permitted it. She’s already acknowledged that, in hindsight, it would have been better just to use separate work and personal email accounts. No one disputes that.

The State Department’s request: Last year, as part of a review of its records, the State Department asked the last four former Secretaries of State to provide any work-related emails they had. Hillary was the only former Secretary of State to provide any materials — more than 30,000 emails. In fact, she handed over too many — the Department said it will be returning over 1,200 messages to her because, in their and the National Archives’ judgment, these messages were completely personal in nature.

Hillary didn’t send any classified materials over email: Hillary only used her personal account for unclassified email. No information in her emails was marked classified at the time she sent or received them. She viewed classified materials in hard copy in her office or via other secure means while traveling, not on email.

What makes it complicated: It’s common for information previously considered unclassified to be upgraded to classified before being publicly released. Some emails that weren’t secret at the time she sent or received them might be secret now. And sometimes government agencies disagree about what should be classified, so it isn’t surprising that another agency might want to conduct its own review, even though the State Department has repeatedly confirmed that Hillary’s emails contained no classified information at the time she sent or received them.

To be clear, there is absolutely no criminal inquiry into Hillary’s email or email server. Any and all reports to that effect have been widely debunked. Hillary directed her team to provide her email server and a thumb drive in order to cooperate with the review process and to ensure these materials were stored in a safe and secure manner.

What about the Benghazi committee? While you may hear from the Republican-led Benghazi committee about Hillary’s emails, it is important to remember that the committee was formed to focus on learning lessons from Benghazi to help prevent future tragedies at our embassies and consulates around the globe. Instead, the committee, led by Republican Representative Trey Gowdy, is spending nearly $6 million in taxpayer money to conduct a partisan witch-hunt designed to do political damage to Hillary in the run-up to the election.

Hillary has remained absolutely committed to cooperating. That’s why, just as she gave her email server to the government, she’s also testifying before the Benghazi committee in October and is actively working with the Justice Department to make sure they have what they need. She hopes that her emails will continue to be released in a timely fashion.

It’s worth noting: Many of the Republican candidates for president have done the same things for which they’re now criticizing Hillary. As governor, Jeb Bush owned his own private server and his staff decided which emails he turned over as work-related from his private account. Bobby Jindal went a step further, using private email to communicate with his immediate staff but refusing to release his work-related emails. Scott Walker and Rick Perry had email issues themselves.

The bottom line: Look, Naresh, this kind of nonsense comes with the territory of running for president. We know it, Hillary knows it, and we expect it to continue from now until Election Day.

It’s okay. We’ll be ready. We have the facts, our principles, and you on our side. And it’s vital that you read and absorb the real story so that you know what to say the next time you hear about this around the dinner table or the water cooler.

The results from a recent survey commissioned by Arcserve indicated that APAC market including India is slightly slower in adopting newer data protection technologies and practices that are being adopted in Europe and North America.

Over a third (35%) of the APAC respondents are holding onto their investment in tape as a primary target for backup, while 51 percent are using disk based data protection. Cloud as a primary means of backup is still not gaining traction at the business level with only four percent of the respondents using Cloud as the backup target.

“From the survey results we can see that there is still a requirement for some of the ‘older’ backup technologies to be supported into the future.” said Ganesh. “Tape continues to have relevance in the backup space and we suspect this will continue for a long time to come.”

The survey also reveals that the backup software market is becoming more fragmented than ever before with no one dominant player. And over half of the respondents expressed willingness to change data protection solutions in the near future.

“It’s clear that the data protection market in APAC is in a state of transition driven by business requirements and new technologies. We are glad to see that change is already underway and to some point a tipping point has been reached. This is a perfect opportunity for Arcserve to disrupt the market with newer technologies and better solutions.” said Ganesh.

Preliminary Operating Statistics

For the 2nd Quarter of Financial Year Ended 2015

AirAsia X Berhad (“AAX” or “the Company”), the long-haul, low cost airline affiliate of the AirAsia Group is pleased to announce its operating statistics for the 2nd Quarter 2015 (“2Q15”). 

In line with the company’s expectation, passenger traffic was set back by the marketing halt in 1Q15 with respect to QZ8501 incident and brand damage in Australia caused by the Bali-Melbourne disruption. The company has intensified marketing activities in early April and taken initiatives to restore positive brand image in Australia which are expecting to bear fruit by Second Half of the year.

The company was also pressured from continuous irrational competition posted by the national carrier with beyond cost level fares and further amplified by series of unforeseen external factors such as the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) in Korea and the massive earthquake in Kathmandu. However, impacts from these extraordinary one-off events are expected to diminish very soon.

Moreover, it is traditionally the weakest quarter of the year for passenger traffic hence AirAsia X recorded lower load factor of 68% but with improved average base fare.Available-Seat-KM (“ASK”) also decrease 9% year-on-year (“y-o-y”) to 5,693 million in 2Q15,through frequency reduction to Australia as well as the termination of Adelaide and Nagoya in 1Q15. Meanwhile, excess capacity from this quarter, resultant from network consolidation, were deployed to short-term wet lease and charter operations, to maximize revenue in USD.

In terms of fleet movement, AAX Group took delivery of 1 A330-300 on operating lease during the quarter, bringing its total number of A330-300s to 26, with 4 based in Thai AirAsia X and 2 in Indonesia AirAsia X.

The company sees return of business from 3Q15 onward as the national carrier rationalized its aggressive pricing and positive brand image has been reinstated in Australia. This is evidenced by promising advance bookings especially from the Australian market and the trend is in line with expectations to override the setbacks of First Half 2015.

The growth of REIT (Real Estate Investment Trust) markets has contributed to the expansion of the spatial and functional scope of finance capital by increasing the mobility of ownership rights to overcome the ‘spatial fixity’ inherent in real estate. This paper explores the distinctive characteristics of liquid capital operating within the “‘indirect investment and securitized channel’ (Theurillat and Crevoisier 2015). Taking Hong Kong REITs (H-REITs) as a case study, the paper highlights the strong institutional embedment of REITs despite the standardization or securitized instruments. It shows a very uneven pattern of H-REIT development according to the different business models of the domestic players. In contrast with the ‘passive’ behavior of Hong Kong family-based group business models, the Link REIT is showing a particularly aggressive policy of value enhancement. Run by an international financial consortium, this REIT holds 180 welfare retail and parking facilities that were privatized through an ‘en bloc’ sale in 2005. The embedment of finance capital in the social housing estates has resulted in the double deprivation of Hong Kong citizens, denying residents of the estates access to affordable community shops, and small investors to rewarding investment vehicles. From a political perspective, the experience of the Link carries particular resonance at a time when China is considering experimenting with property securitization and transferring part of the social housing pool to REIT structures.

Magma and PCRA join hands to make our environment and highways a safer haven

~ Target to save close to 40 lac liters of diesel ~

~ Carbon emission to be reduced by over 10,000 tonnes~

~ Improve income and well being of truck drivers~

New Delhi, 11th August’2015: Magma Fincorp Ltd., a premier NBFC which tied up with Government of India concern Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) recently, today announced having imparted training to over 8000 Truckers in 11 transport nagars in the country, plans to train over 1 Lac truckers in the first phase of its “Truckers Wellbeing” campaign. The company which is aiming to achieve three unique feats – of reducing environment pollution, increasing efficiency and profitability of the truckers community and imparting safer driving skills to the drivers is poised to train over 40,000 truckers in the first year of the initiative.

Magma and PCRA, in a joint press meet held today in the national capital, also showcased the E-toilets and Porta Cabins which have been set up at high traffic transport nagars across the country to improve truckers’ hygiene conditions and to train the drivers. PCRA is extending full support with trainers and technical knowhow to the initiative. This nationwide activity is undertaken to conduct regular health checkups and counseling and train truck drivers to become more fuel efficient, increase savings, reduce carbon emission and in the process make Indian highways a safer haven in terms of environment and accidents.

In the first phase, 13 high traffic transport nagars have been identified in the country where permanent Porta cabins and E-toilets are being installed. Since the campaign was launched on 30th March’2015 at Karimnagar Transport Nagar, Magma has already activated 11 locations and two more locations will be activated shortly. These 11 locations are in Sangrur, Hapur, Faridabad, Kanpur, Karnal, Hissar, Bhillai, Patna, Vijaywada, Karimnagar, Yashwantpur.

At these locations, the porta cabins are being used to hold workshops for drivers on improving driving habits for better mileage and fuel conservation. Fuel makes a critical expense for the truck drivers. Efficient driving habits can help truckers save 22 litres of fuel in 1000 kms trip. Hence reduce the truckers operating costs, pollution and increased savings.  Clean sanitation drive through E-toilets will impact and improve hygiene of over 10 lakh people. In the first phase, the facility will provide direct health benefit to over 1 lakh truck drivers and the training workshops have the potential to save about 40,00,000 litres of fuel and reduce carbon emission by about 10,000 tonnes or 100,16,312 kgs approximately.

India has approximately 6 million truck drivers. On an average a trucker drives about 10576 kilometres in a month, becoming vulnerable to eye sight issues, unhealthy eating habits, posture problems, common ailments of cough and cold due to fatigue, and the danger of HIV. Club this with poor highway safety condition and the highways become most vulnerable to accidents. In India, drivers’ fault account for 78.5% (3,81,648 accidents) of total accidents and more than 30% of the total road accident deaths are associated with trucks annually. Magma at these Porta cabins is also organising regular bi-monthly free consultation, diagnosis and basic medication, well being, posture correction and de-stress workshops for the drivers.

Petroleum Conservation Research Association, under Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has been aggressively working on spreading awareness about the urgency of conserving petroleum products since 1978. They have the depth of experienced and trained staff. Magma Fincorp has tied up with Petroleum Conservation Research Association and the training sessions are being conducted by Petroleum Conservation Research Association certified trainers to batches of 15 drivers each. Trucker drivers get a ‘Certification of Excellence’ on behalf of Petroleum Conservation Research Association and Magma.

Appreciating Magma’s initiative and talking about the workshops, Mr. Nilkanth S. Avhad, Executive Director, PCRA said, “Since its inception, PCRA (Petroleum Conservation Research Association under the aegis of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural gas) engaged in promoting fuel conservation and its efficient utilization in major sectors of economy namely Agriculture, Transport, Domestic, Industry and Commercial through its various activities. It helps the government in proposing policies and strategies for petroleum conservation, aimed at reducing excessive dependence of the county on oil requirement. Over the years, PCRA has enlarged its role in improving productivity in use of various sources of energy, for the purpose of achieving environment protection and sustainable development. As far as Transport sector is concerned there is a saving potential of about 20 % in this   sector. ED, PCRA appreciated the joint initiative of M/s. MAGMA & PCRA  for conducting Drivers training  Workshops at various Transport Nagar locations across India, covering about 8000 drivers under the programme till July, 2015.”

Mr. Sachin Khandelwal, Chief Sales Officer, Magma Fincorp Ltd. added that “Magma has been regularly conducting free pollution and driver health check camps for truckers over the last few years. However, the partnership with PCRA has enabled us to give structured and qualified driving habits training to close to 1 lac truck drivers in a year. The training will not only help with fuel conservation but also directly impact the savings for truck drivers. Our basic calculations and as per inputs from PCRA’;s training programs in the past, show that the saving could be as high as even Rs. 1.5 lac per year. This project is very close to us as we have been continuously working to empower small trucker owner cum drivers with financial aid to help them realize their smallest dreams. And now, a saving of this nature will help them tide over rough economic times”
